Surrounded by cycads while my daughter goofs around. Finally set my eyes on one of, if not the loneliest plant in the world -- the extinct in the wild Encephalartos woodii or Wood's cycad.
Malagos Garden Resort is about an hour's drive from the center of the city. The resort is owned by the family of Rex Puentespina, a friend and a fellow plant enthusiast. Friends, fellow lawyers and newbie plant enthusiasts Paul and Clarence accompanied me in the tour of the resort.
There is a saying, "Behind every great man is a woman".
Well, behind every plant is the man or woman who discovered it or after whom it was named, sometimes both.
At the recently concluded Flora Filipina 2012, I had the privilege and honor of meeting the man behind the Vietnamese species Cycas lindstromii. No other than Swedish cycad expert Anders Linsdtrom himself.

Depending on the game variant being played, poker is based on the "hand" that is dealt to you or the "hand" that you construct. The best hand, of course, is the Royal Flush composed of the 10, Jack, Queen, King and Ace cards of a single suit.
At 8:30 p.m. tonight (GMT +08), lights went off in our household and most of the neighborhood. The only light sources were the street lamps, a neighbor's balcony light and the lights of the security guard at our gate.
I spent part of the hour going around my garden and taking pictures of interesting plant shadows.
