Cymbidium finlaysonianum: only one year to live

I bought this plant in last year's Philippine Orchid Society garden show. At that time my interest in native orchids was just starting. The seller told me that it's a kind of rare orchid so this was enough reason to convince Plantchaser to take his wallet out of his pocket and spend. Someone also told me that it's hard to cultivate the plant under "Manila conditions" and it's destined to die after a few months. It didn't and instead gave me these amazing looking flowers. My confidence in growing native orchid species just leveled up.

Typhoon Orchid

Thirty-one years ago, around this time of the year, powerful Typhoon Orchid roared in the Pacific. It threatened the Philippines but it recurved north northwest and unleashed its full fury on Japan. It left a large swath of destruction and a number of casualties.
