Lots and Lots of Eye Candy

Here are some plants that caught my fancy at the recent Horticulture 2011:  Urban Gardens featuring Native Plants.  I'm not really a flower person but I couldn't resist this hibiscus so it was part of my loot of goodies.  As for the rest, which ones should I chase?

And, last but definitely not the least, an award-winning Tillandsia of Mr. Rene Dofitas.  I am hoping to get this one, or at least one of its pups.

There are some interesting and (to me) unusual plants - but it's the bright orange and red flower that catches my eye - maybe because it's rainy and cold here!

I love all the hibiscus flowers, from the pale pink to the bright orange and of course the orchids. Also love all the ferns and the unknown (to me) Liparis. Great shots of them Bom.

@Esther: I ended up getting that one as well. All the hibiscus specimens are new cultivars. When do they forecast better weather for you? I hope it is soon.

@p3chandan: Do you know that the pale pink has a bluish tinge? I can't get it to come out in the pictures though. Maybe with better lighting.

Loved the Hibiscus flowers!
Btw: maybe you've posted too many pictures on your home-page: their loading has become rather slow...

Lovely photographs and you are right lots of eye candy. I had no problem with the images loading. They were the same as always. Maybe it it the IP or the weather in some cases.

Hello Dona! Thank you for the warning about the pictures. I ended up checking to be sure and I've only consumed 3% of my monthly transfer bandwidth. It may be the IP or the weather conditions as Donna of the Falls mentions.

I like that Agave! It's a beauty. That Liparis is beautiful also. Oh I wish I could join you there Bom. How wonderful see so many nice plants and flowers.

Stephanie, I'm sure Malaysia has just as many beauties. Your garden alone is evidence of that.

That said, you will be more than welcome should you decide to visit. I will be honored to join you in plant chases of your own.

That is such an unusual tillandsia and it's so tall aswell. I'm just used to the shorter one with the pink bract and the purple flowers that come out of the sides of it.

Lots of eye candy indeed. I wish I could have seen them in person. I'm drooling with envy!
Those cattleyas are really beautiful. I'm sure they're quite expensive though, right?

The hibiscus in the first picture is a rare beauty. I can see the slight bluish tinge among the pale pink petals. Hibiscus and orchids are really exotic looking. The hibiscus reminds me of the skirts of Mexican/Flamenco dancer while the orchids make me think of can-can girls. Flower shows are so very interesting and exciting. Happy Valentine's Day to you and wife!

@ Rosie: Yes, it is unusually tall because it is a cross between two big species.

@ SR: The cattleyas were part of the exhibit and not part of the commercial stalls so there was no price tag attached to them.

@ Autumn Belle: The bluish tinge is quite new according to the seller. This is why I could not resist buying it.

Oh i thought i've commented here before, wonder why my comment was gone! Those Hoya flowers are already gone when i went there, but i talked to someone and he introduced the owner who just passed by for a mtg of the organizers. She happened to be a friend of my Hoya scientist breeder in UPLB. I actually posted collages coz you already posted the individual photos. I finished hibiscus and hoya collages but lazy in posting yet.

Sorry about that. Diana of Elephant Eye informed me that comments were being eaten up. I hope everything is back to normal by now. Hehe. I know what you mean. It is so hard to push yourself to post sometimes. You would rather be out in the garden than inside the house deciding what to write about.

Wow you have a Hoya breeder? I can't wait to see your hibiscus and hoya feature.
